At aforeverrecovery.com we are determined to help individuals solve their addiction problems through rehab and self education. Therefore we provide information to let you know what the substance are as well as how they affect you. Alcohol is a colorless liquid that is made naturally or synthetically through the fermentation of certain carbohydrates. The liquid that we call “alcohol” is used in beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages, and is known as ethyl alcohol or ethanol. It is created when the yeast spores cause the sugars to ferment.

Alcohol is most often made from fruits, grains or vegetables that are fermented. Yeast or bacteria affect the sugars in these fruits, grains and vegetables causing them to change chemically into alcohol. Alcohol can take different forms and is not only used to make alcohol beverages. Some of the other types of alcohol are described below:

Methanol or methyl alcohol or wood alcohol is an alcohol which is used in many commercial practices. Methanol can be converted to formaldehyde which is then used to make plastics. Methanol is also used as a solvent in varnishes and paints, in antifreeze and in some alternative automobile fuels. Propanol or propyl alcohol is made from ethylene and a mixture if carbon monoxide and hydrogen. It is used commercial in resins, and other household items like rubbing alcohol. Ethanediol is another form of alcohol that is also known as ethylene glycol and is used as antifreeze in cars. Ethanol is the alcohol that we commonly see in drinks.
